Check the patchlevel of a Sun
computer with pdiag@pogostick.net
We have put up a small service
to check the patchlevel of Sun computers. In brief: The output from
'showrev -p' is compared to the patch reports we we download
from Sun, by a mailresponder program.
We download the patch database from Sun
every morning (MET).
The user you sen the email from must have a valid return address
for email. The Subject field must be the Solaris
release (i.e. 5.5.1 or 5.7).
Example:
% (showrev -p ; pkginfo -l) | mailx -s "`uname -r` `uname
-p`" pdiag@pogostick.net
or
% showrev -p | mailx -s "`uname -r`" pdiag@pogostick.net
Hint: If you have problems with the return address you can supply
it manualy for mailx like this:
% (showrev -p ; pkginfo -l) | mailx -r your@mail.adr -s "`uname
-r` `uname -p`" pdiag@pogostick.net
If you need to download patches these can be downloaded with
anonymous ftp from the URL
ftp://sunsite.uio.no/pub/sun/sun-patches/ (and other
places as well) or from http://sunsolve.sun.com/
if you have a valid user/password (this is a contract service).
See URL http://www.pogostick.net/~pdiag/english.html
for current documentation of this service.
Contact jonr@pogostick.net
if you need to inquire about this service.
If you don't get a reply from the pdiag service
If you don't get a reply within a few minutes you can safely assume
that it failed. Most probably your return email address is incorrect.
You can try this program to search
for the reason of the failiure.
Pogostick rules ok!
